From: Marrq Anthony Subject: Barefoot on Alaska Air... Date: Fri, 4 Apr 1997 01:16:11 -0800 (PST) Hiyas all, I recently just got back from an interview in Seattle, my transportation being Alaska Air... just to avoid any possible shoe police for once, I wore my flip flops into the air port, and while boarding the plane, and promptly put them back in my back pack once on the plane. The flight wasn't all that crowded... in fact, I had my typical air plane luck, and I was the only single person in a row of three, which meant I got to stretch out, with my feet on the seet by the window and my head on the aisle arm-rest. At least one flight attendent seemed to pointedly notice my feet, but simply smiled at me and walked on. Finally an air line that realizes that I (or some company) paid a decent amount of money for the ticket and doesn't feel like hastleing me. I then picked up my rented car, from Avis, barefoot, again with now problems. About a half hour later I checked into my hotel barefoot, again without a word. The next day however, as a promise to my parents (who are footing the bill for college (and who would like to see me some day be able to pay it back)) I wore my flip flops to the interview. Of the four people that interviewed me throughout the day, two were wearing shoes, and two were wearing sandles. I also noticed that there is at least one barefoot employee at Microsoft. On the way back, I decided to brave the airport/boarding process barefoot, as I'd been wearing sandles for 6 hours I'd been interviewing. I was quite happy to not be bothered, or even notice any odd looks from misc. people. The trip home was very uncrowded, and there was more than enough room on the plane for everyone to have a row of three for themselves, and I slept in the same position as the ride to Seattle, again without a problem... Sigh, if only Alaska Airlines flew to Milwaukee... Namaste, Marrq http://www.cco.caltech.edu/~marrq/
