From: Shaun Goodbrand Subject: Barefoot at work Date: Wed, 5 Feb 1997 17:02:03 ZA Hi all, Thanks to the support of the group, I made a New Year's resolution to minimise the use of shoes at work and from Monday, the perfect opportunity arose. Whereas it took me between 5 and 7 minutes to reach my desk from my car, we moved to new offices where I literally park behind the building. I have, for weeks, only been wearing slip ons and slipping them off when I reached my desk and gradually venturing out further during the day. Then the only comments had been positive, like: at the printer- "We are casual today. Should do it myself." at a meeting- "Shaun, you know you are not wearing shoes". "Yes, of course". "Cool". So thus encouraged, on Friday afternoon, when moving office, I left my shoes in the car. No, only had to move a few PCs, no heavy furniture. I had just been moved to supervise a group of 2 or 3 and when I looked around there were two of us barefoot in these new offices. Another colleague noticed this and said, "Shaun, you are influencing your group. I think there should be a rule that your group goes barefoot. I might even join you!" Well, he hasn't yet but this afternoon, another shed the shoes, although I politely explained that it was probably more polite not to, since his feet had been imprisoned all day. Luckily, I have been recovering from 'flu, so my sense of smell isn't so good at the moment. Maybe the trend will continue with my example. Tomorrow, however, I need to give a presentation, so for one day at least, it's sh#@s. Take care, Shoeless Shaun
