From: Bill Kirkpatrick Subject: Conquests Date: Thu, 15 Aug 1996 01:16:40 GMT This last week I've gotten courageous enough to test my barefoot bravado in stores. I've been in a BJ's Wholesale Club twice and today "conquered" a Best Buy. No strange looks (at least that I could tell) and no orders from employees to put shoes on. I expected some type of confrontation, but didn't have any. These trips were mainly to "test the waters" and see in which stores I could get away with being unshod. I guess either folks don't care or don't want to make an issue of it. I haven't yet gotten up to trying nicer restaurants yet, although I have been to McDonald's barefoot once. When picking up our kids from day care today the manager asked my wife (in a friendly tone), "Does he ever wear shoes?" I liked her response: "Not if he can avoid it." A friendly conversation ensued. My wife mentioned a pediatriatian from her childhood who recommended young children not wear shoes at all. About the only places I wear shoes now are to work and church. I wonder how long I'll be able to hold out as the cooler weather of fall approaches... ----------------------------------------------------- Bill Kirkpatrick 0ooo.
