From: Ted Iwanowski Subject: A Great Barefoot Weekend Date: Mon, 28 Apr 1997 08:00:40 -0700 (PDT) It was a nice hot weekend in northern California, and Saturday my wife and I headed for Point Reyes National Seashore. At Drakes Beach we stopped by for lunch, barefoot of course, with no problems. Even the lady taking orders was barefoot! Great fish and chips topped off with a spectacular sighting of a mother whale and her newborn swimming around only 150 metres offshore! After lunch, we walked along the beach keeping an eye peeled for the whales. We then hiked a couple of trails. The signage warned of ticks and recommended tucking long trousers into socks to avoid them, but we simply avoided the long grass and no ticks. Further inland, we discovered the Earthquake Trail around the epicentre of the 1906 earthquake. I did feel a few burrs on the grass walking towards the trail, but none stuck. The trail was about 1 km of asphalt, and my wife thought it might hurt to hike it barefoot, but guess what - no problems. Boy did my feet feel great that night after the workout! Bare feet are obviously the way to pleasure.
