When I shared a telephone and computer keyboard with other people I usually cleaned it first before using it, simply because I was sick so much from picking up germs. Hands provide much more of a health risk than feet. The only way I can think of that you would have a health problem from feet would be if you were diabetic and cut your foot, if you cut your foot with something rusty or stepped on an infected needle and then did not take the proper care of the wound. I think most people have as much of a chance to lose a toe as a finger, depending on the line of work. There are probably many reasons why people view barefeet the way they do, and mask the real reason behind the "health risk" excuse. At one time a woman wearing a dress that showed her ankles was being promiscuious. Not having shoes to wear was a sign of poverty. People who did not wear shoes were considered savages or uncivilized. And the list goes on. In my opinion, people who wear shoes all of the time are inhibited for one reason or another.
