From: Marrq Anthony Subject: Pleasant Experience Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 11:44:06 -0800 (PST) Well, I'm pleased to say, that I've now made my rounds of all three major video stores around here, and collected a card from each (Collect all three, only for a limited time, you will not see this in stores (sorry)), Tower, Blockbuster, and Now playing (used to be suncoast (I think))... I've only been to them barefoot, and at one time or another, I've been noticed barefoot by clerks, and my barefootedness has been viewed with complete indifference. I also recently viewed a Peter Jackson film, Bad Taste (The predecessor to Dead Alive, the finest film to come from New Zealond(sp?) (if not the world), and was pleased to notice that one of the "aliens" (read: people who wear blue shirts) was barefoot. This is rather pleasing knowing that the film was shot quite casually, and many, if not all, of the actors were merely Peter Jackson's friends, volunteering, for the fun of it, to be in his film. Its nice that in the casualness of it all, that one person didn't bother to bring shoes. There were also approxmately 40-60 other "aliens" who might also have shown up barefoot, but due to their brief life span (of approximately (averaging) 0.4 seconds) I was unable to tell either way. Oh, I was stopped by at a Subway to get something to eat. When I came in, I stayed about ten feet back from the counter, to read the menu. The manager was apparently training new help, and the new help, looked at my feet, and whispered something to the manager, who responded with an audible, "No, that's OK." (I'm assuming my barefootedness...) Also, on the way back, I walked past a local park, and took a slight detour to walk through the dirt of a small baseball field, and then later, in the sand that is around the play area... it felt really good, as I don't think I've walked barefoot on anything other than grass, concreate, coblestone and the carpet here at Tech, due to exams (Oh, more good news, I only flunked one!). Sigh, if only I didn't have to do some work today, I would have stayed to walk for a longer time in the sand, and wait for my turn on the swings (there were occupied by children with protective parents (tho I pleased to not notice in disapproving, "I wish that bum would get further away from my impressionable kids" looks that I occaisionally get)... I hope to be reading some more pleasant expierences from more of you. Namaste, Marrq http://www.cco.caltech.edu/~marrq/
