From: Aaron Rainwater Subject: Walking to classes Date: Thu, 05 Dec 1996 19:45:23 -0600 Everyday I park in front of a library that is about a fifteen minutes walk from central campus. In between my parking place and my classes are these various experiences: ~ Slick marble (It's an area which lets you walk through the library building. It gives various sensations depending on the wetness and temperature. Everything from sheer pleasure (cule marble is great), to that nervous feeling of instability that barefeet tend to have on really wet, really cold marble. ~ Lot's O Grass (The library encompasses a large bowl shaped area of grass, in the middle of which is a giant fountain. This is my favorite part of the walk. The grass varies from a soft dryness (it's never crispy since U.T. waters it constantly) to a freezing cold dew (usually when my class starts at 8:00am). The fountain makes the air smell clean and pure. ) There is almost always people there, laying on the grass, sleeping, talking, or having a picnic.) ~ Big pebbly sidewalks (Somedays they feel great, like a deep massage. Somedays they feel like they're eating my feet for breakfast) The best thing about the sidewalks though, is that they toughen my feet even more, and many people will see me walking barefoot. OK,OK, I admit it. I'm kind of an exhibitionist when it comes to barefeet. I just want everybody to notice, and ask me why, so I can tell them. And they can see that I can do everything they do, but without shoes. . It's fun to catch the glances I receive when I'm walking past the bus stop on my way to class. ~ Sharp thingys (OK, sometimes being barefoot kinda hurts. When those sharp nutshells and other dry hard Texas things start filling up the sidewalks, it hurts. But I usually just take it and don't even flinch. Somedays I don't even notice it. Somedays it feels good. And Somedays it hurts like the Dickens! Well there's a little review of my daily walk to and from classes. I would like to say that today was a beautiful day of walking, as the temps went up a bit, and the morning dew was chilly but invigorating. I hope this weather lasts. 5% Cherokee 15% German 20% Scottish 50% English 70% Irish 100% Barefoot .oooO Oooo. ( ) ( ) \ ( ) / \_) (_/ *Chief Blackfoot* -=Go barefoot...It's just better=-
