Thanks for your inquiry regarding footwear requirements for patrons in public places.

The laws and regulations that the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services administers do not address this issue. It is possible for local jurisdictions in Montana to adopt ordinances that are stricter than minimum state requriements though. This may be the reason for the statement on the sign mentioned in your letter.
