Dear Mr. Roat:

This letter is in response to your letter of March 12, 2002 in which you ask about regulations or laws in New York State that require that people wear shoes or other footwear in public buildings, including restaurants. It is quite common to see signs that require shoes by order of the Health Department, but in reality, there is no such order or regulation in New York State.

If you have any further questions regarding this issue, feel free to call me at 518-402-7600 or I can be reached by email at rab10@health.state.ny.us.

Sincerely,

(signed)
