Dr. Randolph L. Gordon, State Health Commissioner, asked me to thank you for and respond to your June 13, 1997, letter concerning requirements for wearing shoes in restaurants.

      I am familiar with the "by order of the health department" signs to which you refer to in your letter. However, I am not aware of any law or regulation in Virginia that requires shoes to be worn in restaurants, shops or markets.
