FORT LAUDERDALE SENTINEL SUN XS Magazine Lost in Cyberspace, Page "Set your feet free and your mind will follow," says Paul Lucas, the founder of the Dirty Sole Society, a barefoot advocacy and support group with a home page at http://www.barefooters.org/. The Web site Lucas has created contains such items as a current events page with real-life experiences and thoughts and tips having to do with 'barefootin.' It also has information about the group's outings, which are held seasonally in various parts of the country. These events are hosted by DSS members who put fellow barefooters up and pick sites to explore that are particularly conducive to shoelessness. The DSS has over 60 members [at the time of this writing] in the United States and Europe. American members tend to be clustered in California, New York, Virginia and Texas, according to Lucas (who is planning to move from a suburb of Chicago to California, where he feels the barefoot lifestyle is more acceptable). Wherever they live, Lucas believes barefoot souls need to stick together. "Some people view feet as ugly and smelly," he says. "The only reason feet smell is because they are encased in shoes all day." -- Wendy Aron
