The Barefoot Gallery

This gallery of photographs shows ordinary people going about their business while barefoot. The photos are taken from places where barefooting is more common and therefore more tolerated.
The purpose of the gallery is twofold: to show that people can go barefoot and "the sky won't fall," and to inspire would-be barefooters to go barefoot since it is widely reported that seeing others going barefoot gives one the incentive to do likewise.

The criteria for photos is that they show ordinary people going about their business who just so happen to be barefoot at the time. The photos must be full-body shots. The subjects can include anyone: the goal is to show a wide range of ages and to keep a good gender balance.

The gallery was unveiled on March 12, 1998. Hopefully, it will grow with time.

We try to schedule barefoot get-togethers four times per year, one per season. Of course, members who wish to schedule others are free to do so and this is highly encouraged. Get-togethers usually consist of barefoot hiking and just bummin' around town barefoot (plus sharing meals, etc). A get-together has a host, a volunteer who lives near the intended places for activities, who does coordination (places, times), and, if s/he has room, gives other members a place to crash.
