Barefoot Trekking in Madeira 2019

Photos of SBL member Evgen Erzen (2019-20) enjoying barefoot trekking and mountaineering, which he practices almost year round.
A) 4 photos: Pico de Ariero – Pico Ruivo scenic track, connecting the two highest points in Madeira

B) 5 photos: Levada do Rei track, almost 10 km long

C) 3 Photos – 18 km trek from Queimadas to Caldeirao de Inferno through the tunnels and under the waterfall.

Evgen tells us it’s maybe the most picturesque footpath through the UNESCO world heritage site, hiking by, behind, and under several waterfalls, and passing through tunnels filled with muddy water.  Being barefoot was a great advantage (compared the conventional hikers trying to save their bright new shoes).

D) “Walking in the Clouds”

A hike through the high wet plateau called Paul da Sarra.  I would title this “Walking in the clouds” as the area is mostly covered with mist.
